Just found this idiot shared the same birthday as Dean Martin.

Listen man, anyone who is still around at this point has pretty much become inured to this. We all just flinch, or maybe some people even laugh, and accept it as the price of doing business here. But can you at least keep it out of the obituary threads? I know it sounds crazy -- if you have no respect for the living, why should you have respect for the dead? -- but just try, if not for civility's sake then as a personal favor to longtime members.

#54720 Tonight Show with Johnny Carson heading to Antenna TV

Posted by audi on 09 January 2016 - 04:30 AM

What helps me is that I'm a pop-culture and news/history buff. During the monologues, I sometimes have to jog my own memory in order to connect the dots, but my ability to recollect has made certain jokes hilarious for me at times.

But even if a joke flies over my head, the witty, high-brow conversation during the interviews makes Carson's Tonight Show a refreshing thing to see again.

James Best played my favorite character on Dukes Of Hazzard.  He was great in that role, very funny.  So sad that we have lost him.  I didn't realize he was that old!

#49557 Deana Martin in Cape May NJ

Posted by stanleybelt on 28 July 2014 - 11:10 PM

I had the pleasure of seeing Dean Martins daughter, Deana , down in Cape May NJ a few weeks ago....

She has a really entertaining show she put together...some great musicians accompianed her, (piano, bass, drums, horns and guitar)...and she sang a lot of Dean's hits as well as other songs made famous by Sinatra and Sammy Davis.... She went out in the audience during That's Amore to have everyone sing during the song...

The highlight was a version of True Love she had just recorded in a duet with Dean thru technology.......complete with a video tribute of his career ...She didn't go back as far as the Martin and Lewis days but centered on his variety show and home movies . Although her voice isn't really strong , she  has great pitch and handled the arrangements without any problem.....she has on stage bantering that reminds me of her father and I had the pleasure of meeting her after the show , talking to her for about 20 minutes about the show, asking her about Jerry Lewis, ( she had talked to him a week before and said  he sounded great..) , about her mother Jeanne, and about the Dean Martin festival this year in Steubenville...she is funny, personable and down to earth..all qualities I have heard Dean had too....her husband, John, (who is also her manager) was very gracious also....He actually took the pic   below.......

.all and all, a great show and I look forward to seeing her again at Christmas in the same venue...now I have talked to Martin AND Lewis.....at least the closest I could get to Martin.....:))

(Consider the source, folks)

"...COMEDY team legends DEAN MARTIN and JERRY LEWIS had one of Hollywood’s most vicious breakups, but Dino’s surely smiling down from heaven at his former partner.

Lewis, 87, has become a father figure to Dean’s daughter, Deana – and he’s a big backer of her singing career.

“If I have problems with anything, I can call him and he’ll give me great advice,” Deana told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview. “I adore him.”

The two reconnected when Deana was writing her bestselling memoir “Memories Are Made of This.”

“We sat down in Jerry’s boat in San Diego and we talked about all the old times,” said Deana. “He was just wonderful and gave me a lot of insights.

“He wrote a beautiful forward and we’ve been very good friends ever since.”

Martin and Lewis r0se to incredible stardom together as an inseparable comedic duo, before a bitter feud over the direction of their act tore them apart.

The pair stopped speaking to each other for several decades, until 1976, when their buddy Frank Sinatra arranged for Martin to make a surprise appearance on Lewis’ Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.

“I’m so glad that they got back together,” said Deana.

But despite the public reconciliation, that was the final time the two would be on stage together. In Lewis’ memoir, he explains that it wasn’t until 1987, after Dean’s son Dean Paul Martin died in a tragic plane crash, that the two began speaking periodically on the phone.

Martin died of emphysema in 1995 at age 78. Like his comedic partner, Lewis has suffered a string of health problems, including two heart attacks, prostate cancer, diabetes, pulmonary fibrosis and viral meningitis.

“There’s something very special about Jerry Lewis,” says Deana, who just released her fourth studio album, “Destination Moon.”  “He keeps going on and on.”

Now he's doing the Soft Shoe. Love it!

Here is the cast of Mad Mad World from 1963 and it shows their birth and death dates. There are only a few left including one in particular. It's interesting to see how young some were when they died, but also to see JL is among the top in living a  long life, and still kicking.

I'd seen recent interview footage, and he definitely looked ill, but it never donned on me that he was pushing 80.

I'll always appreciate him speaking out for Jerry when MDA unceremoniously dumped Jerry.

#44634 Eydie Gorme Dead at 84

Posted by XLUVJERRY on 24 August 2013 - 11:32 PM

Did I mention that when I was backstage in Vegas, Nov. '12, waiting to get into the dressing room to see Jerry, that Eydie was sitting in a wheelchair across from me, waiting for Steve? She had these big sunglasses on -and having grown up with my mom listening to her and Steve sing--I felt like I knew her. I blurted out, "Hi, Eydie"and she replied "Hiya, doll, how ya doing?". It put a big smile on my face seeing her and having this little exchange.

R.I.P., lovely lady.
